{"id":78,"date":"2014-08-27T12:11:18","date_gmt":"2014-08-27T12:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onpleasurefulpastry.com\/?p=78"},"modified":"2014-08-27T12:11:18","modified_gmt":"2014-08-27T12:11:18","slug":"never-miss-a-moment-of-baking-or-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onpleasurefulpastry.com\/index.php\/2014\/08\/27\/never-miss-a-moment-of-baking-or-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Never Miss a Moment of Baking (or Life)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><a title=\"Chocolate Pots de Creme with Lavender &amp; Sea Salt\" href=\"http:\/\/thevanillabeanblog.com\/?s=chocolate+pots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A post on The Vanilla Bean blog<\/a> reminded me how easy it is to let the mind wander into territory of comfort and repetition, falling away for only a few moments from the project at hand. \u00a0Consequences inevitably arise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">The VB author posted about losing momentary focus when baking <a title=\"Chocolate Pots de Creme with Lavender &amp; Sea Salt\" href=\"http:\/\/thevanillabeanblog.com\/?s=chocolate+pots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chocolate Pots de Creme with Lavender &amp; Sea Salt <\/a>earlier this month. \u00a0It was a recipe she had made many times before and became lax when distracted by other activity. \u00a0We&#8217;ve all been there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">In a post a few months ago on <a title=\"The Weekend Morning Kitchen Lab\" href=\"http:\/\/theessentialgarden.wordpress.com\/?s=kitchen+lab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Essential Garden blog<\/a>, I did a best-guess estimate on cooking time for Chocolate Souffle as I only had 3 oz ramekins and not the 8 oz souffle dishes called for in <a title=\"How to Make a Perfect Chocolate Souffle\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.foodnetwork.com\/fn-dish\/2014\/02\/how-to-make-a-perfect-chocolate-souffle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Parks&#8217; recipe<\/a>\u00a0that was posted on the Food Network blog.\u00a0 Although experimentation is frequently necessary, it&#8217;s always a roll of the dice to alter cooking time. \u00a0The end result was a bit of &#8220;fall&#8221; when the souffles cooled. \u00a0Perhaps a few extra moments of attention in each stage of the recipe (including the baking) might have provided a different result. \u00a0The truth is that I know instinctively when I&#8217;ve glossed over a step in favor of speed or distraction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/onpleasurefulpastry.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/08\/imag1976.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-92\" src=\"http:\/\/onpleasurefulpastry.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/08\/imag1976.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"IMAG1976\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">What I&#8217;ve come to realize is that mise en place isn&#8217;t just about assembling the requisite utensils and ingredients before starting to cook. \u00a0It&#8217;s really dedication to a lifestyle that gives weight to being fully present for each activity in our lives, including the prep, execution and completion of cooking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">I wouldn&#8217;t want to miss a moment of it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A post on The Vanilla Bean blog reminded me how easy it is to let the mind wander into territory of comfort and repetition, falling away for only a few moments from the project at hand. \u00a0Consequences inevitably arise.
